FAQs

Why is my mug cake dense? ›

Just don't add too much; you might think more baking powder would produce a taller, fluffier cake, but the ones I made with extra baking powder rose far over the edge of the mug and then sank back into it, giving the dessert an undesirably dense, chewy texture.

Where does bigger bolder baking live? ›

Now, along with my co-creator and husband Kevin, I'm pursuing my lifelong dream of teaching people my trade and sharing my culinary adventures and Bold Baking secrets with other Bold Bakers everywhere. We currently live with our three-year-old son, George, and dog Waffles in the Los Angeles area.

How can I make my cake more dense? ›

On their own, boxed cake mixes have a structure that's loose and airy. But if you add ¼ cup flour or half a box of instant pudding mix, the texture of the cake becomes denser and tighter, ideal for a pound-cake-like consistency that will hold the shape of a Bundt pan.

How do you increase the density of a cake? ›

1. Add 2 extra egg yolks. Pros: Eggs yolks act as an emulsifier in baked goods, and adding two additional yolks (without the whites) both enhanced the perceptible richness of the cake layers, and produced a slightly tighter crumb, creating the overall impression of density, even if they weren't necessarily heavier.

Is Gemma Stafford married? ›

Speaking to the No Kid Hungry team, Gemma tells the story behind the idea: “My husband, Kevin, and I held onto an idea for years about creating an event during the holidays to help bakers as they prepare for their most important meals of the year.

Where does Gemma Stafford live? ›

Now I live in sunny Los Angeles, California where I host and produce a baking show 'Gemma's Bigger Bolder Baking' for the digital space, specializing in over the top bold creations with Irish flair.

How old is Nik Bakers? ›

Bakers Pvt. Ltd) was established in 2006 by a young & passionate visionary Chef Nikhil Mittal along with his father Mr Vinod Mittal (MD) and brother Mr Nittin Mittal (Director), bringing mouth-watering and scrumptious desserts & savouries to life.

What causes a cake to be dense and heavy? ›

Six common baking-fails, and how they can be prevented. Your cake is too dense A cake that is overly dense typically has too much liquid, too much sugar or too little leavening (not excess flour, as is commonly thought).

Why is my cake dense instead of fluffy? ›

Novice bakers sometimes make the mistake of overbeating the cake batter. If you overbeat the cake batter, it can actually toughen the cake. If the recipe uses measuring dry ingredients by volume, rather than weight, be sure to fluff or sift the flour before measuring. Too much flour will make the cake dense and dry.

Why don't mug cakes work? ›

The small size of the treat, particularly the mug you make it in, may limit your ability to properly mix your ingredients together. A regular whisk, for instance, is too big to reach into the space where the wall meets the base, so you might end up with clumps of unmixed dry ingredients at the bottom.

Why is my milk cake dense? ›

However, if you over mix the batter, it can cause the cake to lose its airiness and come out dense. Dense cake won't absorb the milk mixture properly. To keep this from happening, be sure to mix the batter very gently. Once the ingredients are combined, stop mixing.
