Week 1 of the Tennessee high school football season in Nashville will be difficult to top for dramatics and close finishes, but Week 2 includes two qualify public vs. private matchups.
Brentwood makes the two-mile trek north up Granny White Pike to face Brentwood Academy in the game of the week. Brentwood fell behind early against Blackman but made a second-half comeback to secure victory, while BA lost to CPA in a close season opener on Saturday. The Eagles are trying to avoid dropping to 0-2 for the second consecutive season.
Pearl-Cohn hosts CPA in another matchup of state championship hopefuls in different divisions. Pearl-Cohn lost at MBA last week on a 53-yard field goal in the final minute, while CPA held off Brentwood Academy as noted earlier.
The Tennessean will have updates throughout the second Friday night of the high school season, so follow along as highlights, stories and final scores come in from all the games.

This would be quite the hello to Nashville high school football by first-year Ensworth coach Tim Hasselbeck if this result holds.

Jacob Shames is at Pearl Cohn-CPA, a fascinating public-private matchup as Pearl-Cohn continues to increase the schedule difficulty.
Here in North Nashville for a battle between a pair of defending state champions, Pearl-Cohn and CPA. Firebirds got the Lions last year at their place, but lost their opener at MBA last week while CPA took down Brentwood Academy. @PCHS_Firebirds @CPAFootball #tnpreps pic.twitter.com/ZrIwVt3MYp

It wouldn't be a JPII-Father Ryan rivalry game without Mike Organ covering it..
